FOR PARENTS

How to support her at home

You don't need to be a softball expert. Here's what actually helps at this stage.

Coach D's advice for parents
Keep sessions short. 15–20 minutes of focused practice beats 90 minutes of frustration every time at this age.
Praise the effort, not the result. "I love how hard you worked on that" builds more confidence than "great pitch."
Let Coach D be the coach. Your job is to encourage and create the space to practice β€” not to correct mechanics.
Celebrate small wins. A new grip, one more consistent release, staying positive after a miss β€” these are all wins worth celebrating.
The car ride home matters. Keep it positive. Ask "what was your favourite rep today?" not "why did that happen?"
QUICK TIPS

What every beginner pitcher needs to know

These 5 fundamentals separate pitchers who progress fast from those who plateau early.

Grip before speed
A correct grip at 40 MPH will always outperform a wrong grip at 55. Master the grip first, everything else follows.
Consistency beats intensity
15 minutes every day will build more muscle memory than one two-hour session on weekends.
The legs power everything
Most beginners think pitching is all arm. It starts with the drive leg. Teach the lower body first.
Slow down to speed up
Practice every drill at 50% speed first. When it feels easy slow, speed it up. Not before.
Mental toughness starts now
How she talks to herself after a bad rep matters as much as the mechanics. Teach her to reset fast.
