In fastpitch softball, effective communication between the pitcher and catcher leads to a successful game. Catchers must train themselves to understand what their pitchers need, such as emotional support or a quick joke to lighten the mood. If a catcher misses a block, it's the pitcher's job to reassure them that they have their back and to move on to the next play. Pitchers with attention deficit disorder, in particular, need constant communication from their teammates to stay in their zone and maintain tunnel vision. Developing a strong pitcher-catcher relationship starts by building a relationship off the field. Teammates must understand each other's communication styles, personalities, and needs to maintain a healthy and supportive relationship on the field. Effective communication is not an overnight process and requires practice and patience to develop a successful bond on and off the field.
