In fastpitch softball, effective communication between the pitcher and catcher leads to a successful game. Catchers must train themselves to understand what their pitchers need, such as emotional support or a quick joke to lighten the mood. If a catcher misses a block, it's the pitcher's job to reassure them that they have their back and to move on to the next play. Pitchers with attention deficit disorder, in particular, need constant communication from their teammates to stay in their zone and maintain tunnel vision.
