The Power of the Plant Leg: Control Starts from the Ground Up
Jun 25, 2025
Want to fix your pitcher’s control issues? Don’t start with the arm. Start at the feet.
Yes, you read that right. The most overlooked part of a pitcher’s accuracy is often her plant leg.
Here’s what I teach every athlete I work with, from 9U to college commits:
“Your front side is your brake pedal. And if you don’t have strong brakes, you’re flying through the windshield.”
Why the Front Side Matters So Much
Pitching isn’t just about throwing hard—it’s about throwing with stability. When your daughter lands soft or out of line, the rest of her body compensates. That leads to:
đźš« Inconsistent release points
đźš« Arm drag
đźš« Missed high and low zones
Instead, we want to build a strong, directional drive off the mound—and a solid plant leg that absorbs ground force through the heel and hamstring.
That’s the anchor. The control. The fix most parents overlook.
Pro Tip: Check how she’s landing. Is she collapsing forward? Rolling her ankle? Or is she firm, tall, and stacked?
Fix the feet. Watch the control improve instantly.
