The Foundation of Mental Flexibility in Athletics

Flexibility in sports goes beyond physical prowess; it's about having a flexible mindset. In this blog post, we explore the core principles of mental flexibility that are essential for elite athletes. We'll dive into the significance of being open to new ideas and approaches, adaptability in the face of challenges, and the mental toughness needed to excel in high-pressure competitions. Join us as we uncover the mental attributes that set elite athletes apart.

The importance of mental flexibility is under taught but is a KEY part into being a successful collegiate athlete.  If you think you're going to show up on campus and be able to do things your way or the way your previous instructors have taught you ... well you'd be wrong.  College coaches have their way of teaching and their own techniques they expect you to adapt to.  It is imperative that you are able to listen, understand, and adapt to their teaching if you want a shot at playing time.  This isn't a bad thing as college coaches are in their position of power for a reason - they're the best of the best!  Having an open and flexible mindset is what will set you apart from your teammates and make you a coachable player.  Be open to learning new skills, changing some mechanics, and understanding that your coach isn't trying to change you as a player, but instead help you become the best player you can be!
